Hales Bar Dam

Along the Tennessee River in Marion County, sits the ominous spectral known as Hales Bar Dam.

History

The hydroelectric dam opened in 1913. It took eight years to complete construction. The dam faced many struggles through the years, and eventually ceased operation in 1967. The interior of the dam is partially flooded with a naturally occurring whirlpool that constantly flows in the very center.

Spirits of Hales Bar Dam

There's a theory suggesting that flowing water acts as a conductor for paranormal activity. If this holds true, then this dam possesses an ample supply of energy for spirits. Numerous deaths have occurred on the property, with ghostly apparitions often spotted pacing along the catwalk. Legend also speaks of the haunting presence of a child's spirit within the dam. In addition to the claims within the dam’s confines, a narrow underground tunnel stretches to a dead-end along the property, leaving visitors with an unsettling feeling of being followed by an ominous, unseen presence.
