Fort Payne Opera House

On April 15th, 2023, the Tuscaloosa Paranormal Research Group traveled to Jasper, Georgia to investigate the haunting at the Jasper County Jail.

History

The Fort Payne Opera House opened in September 1890. It was converted into a theatre and closed in October 1935. In 1969, it was purchased by Dekalb County and renovated. It reopened to the public in 1970.

Spirits of the Fort Payne Opera House

The Fort Payne area is home to many ghost stories, and this location houses several of its own. The ghostly image of a spectator has been reported in the empty auditorium, as if waiting for a play to start. There have been numerous accounts of people feeling as if they are being watched and followed around from room to room while inside the theatre. Footsteps are heard, along with whispers and mysterious breezes that seem to come out of nowhere.
