Jasper County Jail

On April 15th, 2023, the Tuscaloosa Paranormal Research Group traveled to Jasper, Georgia to investigate the haunting at the Jasper County Jail.

History

The jail was built in 1906 to replace the first county jail. It still has a non-functioning gallows, though no one was ever executed using this device. Additionally, the jail features a "peep hole" connected to the first floor, allowing the sheriff to spy on inmates by listening in on their conversations. On the first floor of the jail were the living quarters for the sheriffs and their families. The jail was ordered to close by a federal court in 1980 due to its "deplorable" conditions for inmates.

Spirits of the Jasper County Jail

Numerous accounts depict the Jasper County Jail as haunted, with stories abound of former inmates revisiting its somber stone confines. Eerie whispers reverberate through the stairwells, accompanied by ghostly footsteps echoing from the shadows.

During our investigation, we conducted multiple sessions using scientifically-based technology. Anomalies in EMF (Electromagnetic Fields) were detected throughout the night. While some of these spikes and detections can potentially be explained by non-paranormal factors, we adhere to a series of protocols, including the scientific method, to ascertain whether the phenomenon is paranormal or has a logical explanation.

The jail's construction in stone creates a Faraday cage effect in certain areas, effectively blocking out most potential interference. Meanwhile, the female members of our group conducted an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) session in the jail cells on the second floor. They utilized multiple EMF detection devices, including Rem Pods, Mel Meters, K2s, and a Trip Wire. These devices illuminate with a colorful display of flashing lights upon detecting EMFs. According to theory, spirits may manipulate energy and electromagnetic fields as a means of communication, thereby triggering the equipment to alert investigators.

While isolated spikes could be attributed to interference from various contaminants such as atmospheric static, radio frequencies, and other sources, the consistency of these detections in conjunction raised intrigue. Investigators posed a series of controlled questions, receiving corresponding spikes on the devices in response. Once the activity was determined to involve communication with a spirit, another series of questions aimed to delve deeper into the nature of the interaction, including identifying the entity with whom we were communicating.

In this video, you will see a clip captured during one of our sessions. Laura Lineberry, a member of TPRG's investigative team, is heard posing a series of questions, to which consistent responses were documented using our Trip Wire device. The team established a communication system using separate devices for "Yes" and "No" answers, with the spirit lighting up a specific device accordingly. Following control questions, we proceeded to ask identifying questions in an attempt to gather further details. Through this process, we concluded that we were communicating with a young male spirit approximately 25 years old. Watch the video.
